Rules Interpretation

Tulsa Fencing Club is a strong advocate of classical foil fencing, as laid out by the printed rules, published in FENCING RULES, by the USFA, in whichever edition is most current.

As a result, Tulsa Fencing Club does not recognize the validity of attacks designed to take advantage of the shortcomings of the electrical scoring aparatus, such as “flicking” “coach whipping,” or other bent arm attacks. According to the printed rules (t.56 (a) 1 - 8), right of way(priority) is obtained when, “the extending of the arm, the point threatening valid target, precedes the initiation of the lunge or fleche.”  TFC accepts this principle, and interprets these printed rules literally.  A hostile advance, or the obvious intention to launch an attack does not give right of way.
