TFC History
Posted by admin on December 31, 2007Tulsa Fencing Club’s goal is to provide the highest level of instruction, broaden the base of fencing in the Tulsa area, preserve the history and traditions of fencing, and develop Tulsa fencers both socially and competitively.
Tulsa Fencing Club has been a member club of the United States Fencing Association (USFA) and the Oklahoma Division of the USFA for over forty years. The club, which was first formed by Art Wade, c. 1960, at the downtown YMCA, is open to both recreational and competitive fencers. In addition to our weekly practice sessions, we also maintain an active competitive schedule.
Over the years, since its formation, both individuals and teams representing the club have held many championships in both foil and epee, in the Oklahoma Division and the Southwest Section of the USFA.
Our head coach, Roger Van Denhende, has studied at the USFA’s National Fencing Coaches’ College at the U.S. Olympic training Center, in Colorado Springs, and at its regional clinics. Other coaches will be under the direct supervision and direction of our head coach. Tulsa Fencing Club currently offers instruction in both foil and epee fencing. A few of our members also fence saber, though at the present time we do not offer saber instruction.
